EREMO SAN CORRADO

The road leading up the città vecchia, the old Noto, is signposted for the Eremo di San Corrado fuori le Mura, set amidst a lush vegetation. Near the 1700’s sanctuary, is the grotto where the saint refuged and lived in the 14^th century. Return to the main road to the Santuario di Maria della Scala. Inside, beside the baptismal font, is a fine arch in the Arab-Norman style. A little further on was the old Noto, destroyed by the terrible 1693 earthquake.
