BRUCOLI
Brucoli is a seaside resort in the province of
Siracusa, standing few kilometres from Augusta. The road leading there is
particularly charming as it makes its way through a series of olive-groves.
The presence of a harbor area contributed to
the resort’s growth over the centuries. A castle would be built in the 15th
century that served to defend it; around this grouped the earliest settlers.
The building consists of a square tower that has undegone some works of
reinforcement throughout time, notably the addition of corner towers and
defensive walls designed to protect the town from pirate raids.
The Porcaria creek flowing nearby makes the
hamlet even more interesting. Near its last reach were found relics from
settlements of the Neolithic and Bronze ages. A holiday village has contributed
to boost tourist flow of recent.
The Santuario della Madonna Adonai is worth visiting.
