ALTAVILLA
MILICIA
The small city of Altavilla Milicia is located in the Palermo province and has a total population of 4,735 inhabitants. It was founded in the early 17th century near what is now called Palazzo Beccadelli. The Chiesa Madre dedicated to the Madonna del Loreto dates from that period, too. In the city vicinity are the remnants of the Chiesa di Maria di Campogrosso or San Michele, with an adjacent Basilian convent, built at behest of Robert Guiscard to celebrate his victory over the Arabs in the 11th century.
