ROCCELLA VAL DEMONE
Roccella Val Demone is located in the province
of Messina, at the feet of the Punta di Castelluzzo mount at about 810m a.s.l.
The town, counting some 1,000 inhabitants, lies
at a few distance from the Nebrodi and Etna parks – Etna’s silhouette
overshadowing the landscape – and the Roccella creek.
Become a barony after 1296, it was then
declared a Marquisate, under the noble Spadafora family.
The Chiesa Madre dedicated to the Udienza
and the remnants of a feudal castle are the town’s main attractions. Roccella
Val Demone’s visitors may enjoy dramatic excursions in several neighboring
naturalistic sites such as the Punta di Castelluzzo peak, the Pizzo Croce
Mancina and the mentioned Etna volcano.
