PETTINEO
Pettineo, about 300m a.s.l., is located in the Messina province, in proximity to a hill where sits the Castello dei Ventimiglia, the family who ruled the town in the 14th century. Today, it totals a population of 1,700 inhabitants. It is endowed with a number of interesting cultural sites. Among these is the Chiesa Madre, housing a marble altar-piece representing the Madonna, St. John, the Baptist and St. James, and a painting depicting the martyrdom of Saint Thomas the Apostle.
The Chiesa di San Sebastiano and the
1300’s Chiesa di San Nicolò, which is the oldest in town, are also
worth-visiting.
