FICARRA
Ficarra is a small town in the
province of Messina standing
at 450m a.s.l. between the valleys of Naso and Brolo rivers. It has a
population of about 2,200.
The main building is the Chiesa Madre
dedicated to the Annunciation, housing numerous pieces of art, like a
1500’s marble polyptich depicting the Madonna and Child with Christ and
the Saints, a 1500’s marble stautue of the Virgin of the Annunciation by
Antonio Gagini and a 1500’s marble ciborium.
The tour of the town also includes some minor
churches, the remnants of the 1500’s convent of the Minori Osservanti,
the Benedictin Chiesa della Badia, the charming Parco della
Rimembranza, just off town, and the ruins of a medieval castle.
