AIDONE
A tiny town in the Enna province, Aidone stands
near a Mount bearing its same name in the Erei Mountains. It has a main
medieval look that betrays some Arab features. Agriculture and tourism,
enhanced by the close archaeological site of Morgantina, are the town’s main
economic resources. Aidone’s visitors can enjoy several religious buildings
such as the Chiesa di Santa Maria la Cava founded in the early 12th
century and the Chiesa Madre di San Lorenzo.
The ruins of an ancient Norman castle, destroyed
by the 1693 earthquake, and the important Regional Archaeological Museum
with relics from Morgantina and the neighboring areas, are also worth-seeing.
