SAN CATALDO
San Cataldo is a city of nearly 23,000
inhabitants located in the province of Caltanissetta at 625m asl. It was
founded in the early 1600s by Nicolò Galletti on a former hamlet. The
extracting and mining industries, especially in the 19th century,
here have played an important economic role. Some charming events take place
during the Holy Week. Particularly awaited is the Discesa della Croce on
Holy Friday. The city’s major attraction is the Church of the Mercedari
Fathers.
