CAMPOFRANCO

Campofranco, about 4,500 inhabitants, is located in the Caltanissetta province. It began life as a hamlet in the close of the 16th century. Specimens of that epoch are provided by the Baron’s Palace, built by Giovanni Del Campo – the village founder – the Mother Church and the religious complex of the Friars Minor Conventuals, comprised of a church and a convent. Campofranco became an autonomous city in the early 1800s. Other interesting cultural sites are the church of S. Maria dell’Itria and the City Tower.
